Protecting Your Right To Get Paid For Your Work
When you put the hours in at your job, you reasonably expect your employer to pay you. Iowa has wage and hour laws designed to protect your right to full payment for your work. If these rights have been violated, you may be able to file a claim to recover what you lost.
At Hedberg & Boulton, P.C., our Des Moines attorneys have been fighting for the rights of workers throughout Iowa for over 60 years. With our long history of only representing workers, we know how to fight for your rights in the face of unfair wage and hour violations.
What Is Minimum Wage Rate In Iowa?
In Iowa, the current minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. However, if you make $30 or more in monthly tips, your employer may pay you a minimum of $4.35 an hour. If your weekly tips do not average at least $7.25 an hour, your employer must pay the difference.
Helping You Navigate Iowa’s Wage And Hour Laws
In Iowa, wages include compensation for work performed, including bonuses and incentives. Sometimes, paid time off, sick leave and vacation time are also considered wages that employers are legally obligated to pay.
We can help you with a variety of wage and hour claims, including:
- Overtime pay violations
- Lunch and break violations
- Holiday pay violations
- Work leave violations
- Minimum wage violations
- Unpaid wages
- Bonus, commission, other unpaid earnings
If you don’t receive the wages owed to you, you can file a claim with the Iowa Division of Labor and have the right to file a lawsuit against your employer.
We Won’t Let Your Employer Take Advantage Of You
Employers in Iowa must pay time and a half to workers for all time over the 40-hour work week. If you worked overtime and never got compensated for it, you have two years to file a claim and obtain back pay. If your employer knowingly violated the Fair Labor Standards Act, you can recover wages for three years before the date of filing. Don’t let your employer take advantage of you. Our attorneys at Hedberg & Boulton, P.C., will aggressively advocate for your rights.
